REVIEW - True Blood series

Like many people probably do, I sometimes watch television shows on a streaming service.  The type varies, and I don't just watch anything.  I also don't tend to make any huge effort to watch a show just because it was very popular.  I decide based on my own preferences, mostly, and have actually avoided some quite promoted shows, simply because they didn't interest me, or for other reasons.  Those familiar with me will likely be able to speculate on that issue with some accuracy.  For those who aren't, I don't go for "woke" attitudes, and have serious limits in some areas.  I don't want some "PC" agenda, and if there's going to be sxeual material, it needs to be part of the story, not just there to sell a show.  There need to be limits as well.  Not looking for a porn "show".

Before going further, be aware that this will contain spoilers, so if you don't want to see those, stop reading.  If you decide that you want too see this show, I don't want to ruin it for you.

Alright, with that out of the way, let's get to the main topic.  This is my personal review of the old True Blood series.  Having an interest in supernatural sorts of topics, and noticing the series on Hulu, I decided to see if it was any good.  That's where this gets interesting.  I did watch all seven seasons.  Had I been watching when it aired, I am not sure that would have been the case.  I will say that this isn't one I'd likely purchase on disc.  Simply put, it's a mixed bag.

The premise is simple.  The story is set in a small town in Louisiana, at some near-future point of time in which vampires have revealed themselves to be real, due to the production of synthetic blood that allows the vampires to feed without biting people.  We get an interesting cast of characters, trying to adjust the the changes that have come to their world.  The characters are mostly interesting, and secrets are discovered as the tale continues, so in basics, it' not  bad start.  Unfortunately, that doesn't continue to be the case.

Here's where it gets interesting.  Before starting this, I decided to do some reading, to review key points and make sure I didn't forget something, and also to see what complaints others had.  There have definitely been those, but I discovered (to no surprise) that none of them mentioned the biggest issues.  Well, I am going to discuss those issues.

The main character is a young woman named Sookie.  She's a bit naive, and seems mostly innocent.  She has a brother names Jason, who is what I'd describe as a "horn dog' type.  He's young and cute, and gets pretty much whatever girl he wants easily.  We meet a vampire named Bill, a restaurant/bar owner called Sam, a waitress (which Sookie is as well) called Arlene, a homosexual cook named Lafayette, and some others.  Sookie's best friend is Tara (Lafayette's cousin, as it happens), a young woman who is black, and whose mother has been a drunk for ages.  Tara was raised more by others, including Sookie's family, than at her own home.

This is part of one issue.  Tara had a HUGE chip on her shoulder, wanting to make everything about her race, even is there isn't even a real issue.  This is a problem because this young woman was raised more by white people thn by her own, so the animosity is grossly misplaced.  This isn't the only time racial issues are represented in such a fashion, either.  It's so overdone you'd almost suspect mockery, but based on everything else, I think they were serious and just expected viewers to be so stupid that they'd buy it.  I found myself wishing very early on that they'd just kill off her character, and quickly.

Next, it was obvious that they were pushing some correlation between vampires and homosexuals.  I mean really pushing, too.  As in, "Gee, you can't dislike ALL vampires because SOME are bad." sort of commentary.  Never mind that they think of you as cattle; you can't dislike them or you're a (some PC/BS term s yet to be invented).  That brings us to the sex stuff.

It seems, almost from the start, that half the point of the show is to have sex, sex, sex!  All the time, far more than is needed to be seen, just to titillate the audience.  Now, I'm not a child, and can certainly handle some sex in a show.  Within limits.  I don't see that excess is necessay, and certainly we don't need anything too graphic.  I don't want to watch porn wrapped up in a theme.  This show seemed to see sex as a major theme.  No good plot?  Toss in some sex!  No real idea how to fill the time slot?  More sex!!  If it's homosexual, all the better!  This is past the point where I draw the line.

That's another issue; if the show is about vampires, why does so much emphasis have to be placed on various same-sex relationships?  I don't want an agenda wrapped up in a theme.  It's dishonest, and it's not what we were supposed to be watching.  When we have moments of a sex scene crammed in between this and that, with literally no connection to the story, it's clearly about pushing trash more than pushing an interesting story.

Some of the elements that could have made the show better were almost like a side thought, were poorly utilized at all, and then completely dropped.  Some elements were the opposite - bad for the show, but promoted so much you'd get sick of the whole storyline.  Season two, for example.  MaryAnn is introduced, and seems to exist to promote orgies amongst the townspeople.  Literally.  It's as if half the season is supposed to be sex all the time, with anyone, anywhere.  It's annoying, gross, and even involves some cannibalism.  The rest is more about an anti-vampire group, presented as if they were a Christian group.  Bias?  Oh, yeah.  Tara's mother?  Straighens up at one point, wants to get back to normal, seeking her Christian roots, and she's treated like some sort of "fanatic".  Bias, indeed.  The main character bouncing from vampire to vampire to werewolf is fine, just don't be Christian!

Season one, they're seeking a killer, whose reason is that he thinks it's wrong for people to be intimate with vampires, and who is thus treated as biased or whatever, and more emphasis is on the sex than on the actual storyline.  Apparently, the viewers couldn't figure anything out without video clips of vampire sex shown over and over.

Season Three involves an odd plot turn, which isn't as bad as some claim,,and also a vampire who wants to take over everything, and who is very overdone (and, of course, also homosexual).  He's treated as far stronger than other vampires, though he isn't the oldest, and is highly annoying.  We also get werepanthers, which look pretty cool, but are presented quite badly.  Panthers, but they all live together, deal in meth and V (vampire blood), and feel a need to force Jason to replenish their gene pool?  Lame, more than a little sick, and totally unrealistic.

Four brings in witches.  In several renditions.  One is annoying, poorly executed, and beyond realistic.  Of course, we can't just have that, but hsve to include possession and other plot tools that don't work well at all.  We finally have a hope of an annoying character dying, but no, that's too easy.  Of all the characters to turn into a vampire, why that one???  The only decent note was Sookie being with Eric, which was a much better mach than Bill.  Didn't trust Bill from his first appearance.  Did I mention that Lafayette's boyfriend's name was "Jesus", a brujo?  Yeah, more anti-Christian bias.

Five puts a lot of emphasis on Terry, the husband of Arlene and a war vet with PTSD issues.  He's also one of the most decent characters in the show.  The storyline goes definitively anti-military, of course, and we end up losing Terry.  We discover that vampires mostly see people as food, more that Bill can't be trusted, and get information about a vampire that supposedly killed Sookie and Jason's parents.  Far less interest than you might think.

Six brings us Super-Bill, a faerie grandfather, the evil vampire threat 9and he's got an odd twist), ad a virus that affects only vampires, and fatally.  Yeah tossing stuff everywhere to try and retain viewers, I suppose.  Somewwhere in this area, there was even some sort of vampiric "sex room" shown, with "toys" and other stuff, some supposedly historical, to entice a young couple.  Sick, yes, and beyond pervy.

Seven tries to wrap everything, but does so awkwardly.  By now, Sookie's ditched Bill, moved to Eric, then to Alcide, a werewolf.  So, they kill off poor Alcide, so Sookie can go back (WHY?????) to Bill, try and resolve everything else, finally kill off Tara only to have her silent (Tara, silent....ok.....) ghost around, wrap up the vamp plague, toss in more sex, of course, have scenes I suppose were meant to me moving, then wrap everything with some big feast (Thanksgiving with no traditional signals??) with all sorts of odd couples included, and no explanations.

The series could have been so much better.  No agendas, other than to entertain us, no PC boxes to check, no quotas to fill, and someone actually handling a good story line, and perhaps the show wouldn't be such a mess.  When I read reviews and they ALL ignore the real issues, it's clear that they weren't concerned with a good show.  When I read complaints that the gay cook's character didn't get enough footage in the finale, the agenda is clear.  the problems were, in part, poorly done storylines and poorly handles plot tools.  However, the biggest issue, I believe, was the emphasis on agenda over story.  I don't think that most people want to be manipulated in this fashion, with trash and agenda wrapped up in supernatural trappings.  I don't think most want to see anti-white, anti-Christian, anti-military nonsense, with nasty sexual content and other bad behavior tossed in to keep people hooked.  I hope I'm not wrong.

Let me know what you think, especially if you've seen the show.   Disagreeing is fine, but be polite.

PRAYER REQUEST!!

Looking for prayer for the husband.  Not sure about the issue yet, but worrisome, and could be serious.  Also, can't even wait at the ER to see, due to mask requirements, since I flat out cannot breathe in one.  Appreciate prayers that it's nothing bad, and he can be home quickly.  Many thanks, all!

Merry Christmas!

Sorry I haven't been posting more, but I just haven't seen a lot to yak about lately.  Well, nothing fitting for the Christmas season, anyway!

Ah, Christmas! It's been pretty calm this year.  The lights were up by the 6'th, along with most of the decorating, with the last little bits being done by the 7'th.  Gift wrapping was finished by the 15'th.  Most was done a few days prior, but a couple of gifts didn't arrive till later, hence the delay.

Yeah, yeah, I hear the grumbling.  I've been there; wrapping on Christmas Eve, trying to finish in time.  Not having small kids running around helps.  For those still wrapping, you can do it!  I wished sometimes, in those days, for a nice empty closet in which to store gifts, so I could wrap them well ahead of time and hide then away.

Baking cookies was on the 17'th, to deliver to the few neighbors the next day.   No, not a huge job, as we really don't have a lot of neighbors.  Those we have are good people though, which is a real blessing.  Thus, the reason for baking.

I do hope everyone is staying warm and safe, and that you're able to spend some time with loved ones.  If you can't, just love them from afar, and remember the reason for the season.  You are loved, and that's what this day is about.

Merry Christmas,

What's On Your Menu? - Happy Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I thought it could be fun to discuss what's on everyone's menu.  Whether cooking at home, visiting others, or going out, we all have preferences for the holiday.  Now is your chance to share yours; what you have planned, your favorites, recipes if you like and so forth.

Ours is a fairly standard menu, and doesn't change much from year to year.  A big roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli with cheese sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, rolls, deviled eggs, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cherry pie, home-brewed iced tea, and egg nog.  Sometimes squash is added, and maybe some cranberry muffins.  Overall, though, the menu doesn't really change.

I'd love to hear your standards, and any recipes you'd like to share.  Pictures are welcome, if you want, and stories of holidays past are most welcome!

For anyone feeling less than festive, know that God loves you, and people do care.

Anyway, hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving, and make some new memories.

HATE CRIME!! - Teen murdered in Ohio

A seventeen-year-old white teenage boy was brutally murdered by three black adult males in Akron, Ohio on June 2, 2022.  Why?  Read on.

This is Ethan Liming.  He was an honor roll student, athlete, son of a pastor, and all-around decent guy from all reports.  He and three friends, one of them white, the other two black, were riding around on June 2, just looking for fun.  Someone in the vehicle might (or might not) have fired a water gun at people, and no one seems able to state if that even happened, and if it did, who did it.  Regardless, no reasonable human being would claim that getting wet from a water gun was reason for assault, and certainly not for murder.

Yet this young man is dead.  The group of tens had pulled into the parking lot of a local school, one initially started by LeBron James, now mostly supported by tax dollars, that offers all sorts of "free" stuff to "at-risk" students and families.  "Free" bikes and helmets to students, "free" meals, "free" uniforms, "free" tuition, "free" transportation, a food pantry, GED and job placement services for parents, and even tuition to the University of Akron for anyone with a 3.0 or higher.  Lots of "free" stuff for blacks in the area, undoubtedly leading to a greater sense of entitlement.

After arriving in the parking lot, it seems some of Ethan's friends were horsing around in the lot, and apparently the group of thugs didn't like this, so a "dispute" started.  Ethan exited the vehicle and tried to deescalate the conflict, and was attacked by two of the men.  The third then attacked from behind, and Ethan was overcome and knocked unconscious.  Then the attackers beat and kicked him to death.

The police have been quick to claim there is no indication of any racial motive, and did so even before they had arrested a single suspect.  No idea at all, of course, about actual motive, but they were ready to defend the murderers, and even claim that the kids in the car "provoked" the attack with a water gun.  That's right, you can cause someone to murder you if you're white and they're black.  Apparently blacks don't need self control, and can murder whenever they wish in Akron.  In many other places, as well.  The violent behavior of these black men against a teenager isn't important.  All that matters to the authorities is that blacks aren't "offended", apparently.

These are the criminals who murdered the young man.  No mention of any hate crime, even though they targeted one of the two whites in the group.

When do we say enough is enough?

"White People Don't Season Their Food" and the Inherent Racism In That Claim

Do you ever wonder why black people are always commenting on what white people eat?  Not just wondering, but actively criticizing?  Apparently, this has been a thing for many years now.  I wasn't aware until fairly recently, after coming across comments in various places claiming that "white people don't season their food".

Ridiculous, I know, but there are fools out there who believe it.  Mostly, this idea seems to be used as a way to disparage white people.  Many who admit the idea is racist will try and "soften" that by stating it's "really just white Americans", as though that's less of an insult.  The entire premise is flat out stupid, and some of the arguments made in support of it are beyond illogical, historically unsupported, and often just lame.

So, the purpose of today's blog is to discuss this idea, break down the facts, and share some of the most ridiculous claims, as well as to address the racism threaded through most of the discussions.  If you're of the "politically correct" mindset, and/or think that there can be no racism from non-whites, you might be in the wrong place.  You're welcome to stay and discuss if you like, but be warned; snappy dismissals with no real content aren't going to do well, and rudeness isn't tolerated here.  Disagreement, sure, but state an actual reason.

Anyway, here we go, and apologies for the length, because this one is going to be detailed and lengthy.

I believe the first place I saw something about this was in a YouTube comment.  I thought it was a bit weird and stupid, but shrugged it off.  Then I saw it again, and again, quite often in various discussions online, so I decided to look into the issue and figure out why this seemed to be a "thing".  Most of the comments seem to be posted by blacks, with the idea that white people only eat the plainest of foods, can't cook, and so forth.

I then located an article claiming that this was true, and the reason was, supposedly, that rich people in Europe decided seasonings were bad when they became more affordable, because even the "common people" could buy them.  Yes, this was illogical from the start. It took a bit of searching, but I finally located information on the origin of this idea; a professor at NYU named Krishnendu Ray, Indian fellow, who apparently thinks that not seasoning the same way as people in India means not seasoning at all.  The idea is stupid anyway, because even if very wealthy people decided not to season their food (no evidence for that), more people were not wealthy, and were seasoning their food all the time.  These were the people, for the most part, who left Europe to settle in America, bringing their seasoning habits with them.

I really loathe revisionist "history".

I also am not fond of those who resort to that and other nonsense to put on some false air of superiority, combined with putting down those they envy.  Yes, I said it.

Along with such illogical assumptions, we have, of course, the racist nonsense.  Some attempt to cover up their bias, as in this case:

Why White People Can’t Cook

There, the author tosses in some claims about her childhood, to play on emotions, then proceeds to reveal her own very strong animosity toward the entire white race.  Sadly, many people seem to fall for it, though based on comment votes, most see her for the fraud she is.  If you don't want to read it all (and who could blame you?), here are some highlights:

Every weekend we would take the number six bus to the westside market. My mother would drag me, hand clutched firmly in her larger, rougher one, from stall to stall, judiciously selecting only the freshest corn, the ripest melons, and the best cuts of meat.

When I was younger, before I knew what those colorful strips of paper really were, before I was old enough to notice the way cashiers looked at my mother differently when she presented them, I thought she was paying for our food with Monopoly money. I never worried that we would run out of food because Mommy got more Monopoly money at the beginning of every month. Food scarcity was not a specter of my childhood.

Looking back on it now, I see that my mother was always teaching me how to cook. Our trips to the market, the shiny, glossy Bon Apetit and Epicurious magazines she sometimes bought, sometimes borrowed from the library, her careful curation of spices, with the more expensive saffron, rich Indian cinnamon, and real Madagascar vanilla safely tucked away on the top shelf, seemingly forever out of reach — all of it was a cooking class with a Black hermeneutic.

Note, please, the sections highlighted in red.  The author is actually bragging about her mother "buying" the best meats and most expensive spices while on food stamps.  Entitlement, anyone?

That's not the worst part, though.

Once we had a white church member volunteer to help the Black History Month Committee prepare for our annual Soul Food Potluck. “I want to learn how to cook soul food from the African-Americans!” she said brightly.

We took her at her word. We created a Black culinary experience by assigning her menial tasks that were hard to screw up — chopping vegetables, grating cheese, creaming butter and sugar, etc. After about two hours, she said: “This isn’t fun! I thought I was going to learn to make macaroni and cheese!” An hour after that, she left. She never did learn anything

Note that there was no effort made to show this woman the slightest bit of respect.  Instead, she was treated like a slave, told to do whatever she was told, and treated like an idiot or a child.  Perhaps the author was miffed that the woman was capable of learning a simple recipe in a single lesson, instead of over many years, as the author claims she learned.

The lady from my church, like many white people, wanted to be able to lead without learning how to follow. She will never learn how I make mac and cheese because she won’t return to the kitchen, again and again, do whatever is asked of her, stay quiet, stay patient, and learn. She will never be a good ally for the same reasons.

In simple terms, the author and others there treated her like a slave, as previously mentioned, and then act all smug when she walks off.  As for not being "a good ally", who wants to be the ally of someone who hates them?  The author herself is no ally to anyone who doesn't share her race, and she's not alone in that.

The really amusing thing about her little piece is that the dish she mentions is macaroni and cheese.  Before tripping over her nonsense, I located many claims that "white people" can't taste seasonings, and some used as an example dish, mac and cheese.  Supposedly if we eat it, it's tasteless and dull, but if a black person eats it, it's haute cuisine.  I even located this:

I do love how the person who reposted and commented on the meme slammed those spreading it, but was stunned that apparently many blacks seem to think that's an accurate representation.  Then that author used such a dish to claim some sort of superiority.  That fellow is right; the 4chan poster is a genius.

There is a lot more of this nonsense online:

Shit White People Eat - Seems to be a collection of (supposedly) icky foods that someone collected and decided were "white people food", and most don't even look bad.

This thread was started to complain about the trend, but contains some seriously racist crap, such as"

Idk, the only Wypipo who had decent lunches when I was growing up were those who had moms from Europe or Wops in general. My own mom would always have some kind of deli meat sandwich made with love, and I'd always give the brown lunch bag to the WASP kids so they could lick the grease stains off the bottom like the Caker motherless fgts that they were.
That first term, in case you haven't heard/seen it, is stated to be a derogatory term that "sounds like" "white people".  I suppose if one is illiterate and can't speak properly, they might think the two sound the same, but no educated intelligent person would think so.

Then we have the blatantly racist terms used.

Finally, for that one, is the comment on the supposedly superior food his mother packed - a lunchmeat sandwich, so bad that "grease stains" were left in his lunch bag.  Color me envious....NOT.

Lest you think that this isn't deliberate racism, think again:

Top 10 Ways Black People Keep Racism Alive, According to Wypipo

This moron actually believes that being racist is his duty, and while being racist, tries to claim it's all "white people" causing the problem.

Because I am always open to sharing the wisdom of white America, I wanted to combine the practices that tartar-saucians often describe as “race-baiting” into one top 10 countdown for those who are interested in keeping racism alive.

Virtually everything he says to refute the items he lists is utter BS, of course.  He pretends, for example, that Affirmative Action only awards people who would without it merit the job, scholarship, whatever, without noting that lowered standards are used for blacks than for other applicants.

Why am I discussing that racist, you ask?  He's an example of how many blacks act, in using anything and everything to not only claim to be victims, but to insult other races and claim it's not actual racism.

Moving on, let's talk about supposed "black food".  Some articles claim that all of the good Southern cooking is a direct result of slaves cooking back in the day.  Never mind that most people didn't own slaves, and cooked their own meals, never mind that slaves who did cook were taught to prepare preferred dishes, and never mind that most of the dishes eaten were certainly not invented by slaves.  No, let's disregard all that, and pretend that blacks did everything good, in spite of the entire world of "evil white people" (an actual global minority) being set against them.

I will credit black-eyed peas as being from Africa, but what most call "yams" are not.  There is a food eaten in Africa called a yam, but it isn't the same as a sweet potato, which is what is enjoyed here.  They're similar, but not the same.  That slaves may have enjoyed them as something familiar doesn't mean they can take credit for all sweet potato dishes.  Some claim cornbread is a "slave dish", when people were eating that and other corn dishes before there were slaves here.  Talk about cultural appropriation!

If you look up what is called "soul food", it's basically bland dishes with too much fat, too much salt, and a lot of added sugar.  Hardly what I'd call "rich in flavor" of "properly seasoned"!  Many black sites and others catering to the trend even claim blacks don't want to eat healthy because healthy choices are "white".  How self destructive.

For a reference to "soul food", from a source no one could call right wing:

List of soul foods and dishes

Almost none of this is actually African (aforementioned black-eyed peas being the exception), and the article even admits that the cooking styles were often European or 'Native American".  More cultural appropriation from the people screaming that others do it. Fried chicken is Scottish, so any African Americans demanding an end to cultural appropriation can stop eating it right now.  Grits were food the American Indians ate.

If black people are such great cooks, and have so much better taste in food, why is this opinion so common?

Why do black people almost always order their steaks well done (or at least medium well)?

I've seen that all over the place online.  Also, why, if they're so much better at cooking than white people, does this video exist?  Note, this is two black women making the video.

One commenter online stated something quite accurate, I believe, which echoed my own thoughts.  Properly seasoning one's cooking doesn't mean dumping on everything in the spice cabinet.  I tend to agree, and suspect that some claim food isn't "seasoned properly" if it isn't overly seasoned.  Perhaps some of these foolish folks can't taste anything, so they overdo their "seasoning" and call everything else "bland".

In reality white people can and do use seasonings.   We enjoy subtle flavors and bold ones.  Not preferring some specific type of seasoning doesn't mean a person "can't taste" anything, as that one racist claimed, or that the person doesn't like or use any seasoning at all.  That's just stupid.

White people explored the entire world, and much of that was in the quest for spices from other lands.  To claim they'd do this while not wanting to spice their foods or even taste spices is just stupid.  STUPID.  Maybe we should have a discussion about IQ next.

This is just another BS ploy to belittle an entire race, and to try and appropriate things that race created.  That, and perhaps some jealousy.  As an example of that, some claim that cheese is "bad" food, and white people only eat it because they have no taste.  Seems like jealousy to me, since many non-whites are lactose intolerant, and can't enjoy all of that yummy cheese.  Nothing but sour grapes.

Why Do People Like These Things? ~or~ Stuff I Can't Stand That Others Seem To Love.

Hello!  Yes, I'm still here, though I haven't posted to this blog in quite some time.  Sorry for that.  A lot of what I post is political in nature, and lately there's been so much absolute insanity that I simply couldn't compose something useful, or not so filled with ire that you wouldn't want to read it.  So, I am posting something totally not political, but that could be quite controversial to many, since I am sure we will share different opinions on these things.

Simply put, as the title indicates, I am going to discuss some things that are quite popular but that I can't stand.  Much of this is in the area of entertainment, though some is just common behavior, or common phrases, etc.  I decided on this after looking for lists of what I described as "best old sitcoms" in my search engine.  I was looking for old classics, and of course, some of what was included was stuff as recent as the 90's.  Not what I'd call classic, but I know everyone else isn't in my age range.  Even making allowances for the ages of these shows, I flat couldn't believe that enough people liked some of them enough that they'd be placed in a list of that sort.

In no particular order for me, just listing as they come to mind:

Seinfeld -

Seriously, I don't see the appeal.  I tried more than once to watch the show, due to a recommendation, but I just couldn't do it.  Every single character on the show was awful.  I know, I know; they're supposed to be.  Still, I can't understand why anyone would want to watch characters with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.  This wasn't a case of one really rotten person, and the rest alright, but literally all of them being absolute scum.  They made that the goal!  I've read commentary from around the 'net, talking about how this was somehow what made the show appealing, that some seemed to love that these characters were acting as they should, like animals, basically, with no conscience, no morals, no good qualities.  What sort of person finds this entertaining?  People call this "liberating" in the same way that serial killers speak of being "free" to kill, of finding that liberating.  Frankly, I find this horrifying.  A society of that sort would not be a society at all.  Are there really people who'd rather be thought of as selfish, nihilistic, narcissistic, rotten people, rather than strive to be decent, to care about others, to make the world a better place?

Avatar -

Here, I mean that terrible movie from 2009 with the blue people.  The film had some great effects, I will admit, but was otherwise just not worth watching.  Worse, the messages are deliberately negative - anti-America, anti-military, anti-capitalism, environazi-friendly, new age-themed, totally Leftist.  I don't care how god the effects are; I don't want to watch some globalist BS when I pay for a movie ticket.  The entire experience left me feeling almost physically sick.  If that's what Hollyweird wants to promote, they can do without my money.

Harry Potter

I've tried, really I have.  I tend to enjoy fantasy stuff, as a rule, but with this one, I just can't find the interest.  It's bad enough that a lot of this is not exactly original, and there are many accusations of flat out plagiarism, but I can't even gain any interest in the characters.  At all.

Pop Culture Terms I Won't Use -

Then there are those "words" and phrases that get tossed around, mostly made up, and all annoying.  I can't use these words and phrases.  I won't use them.  I appreciate the language, and detest seeing it so butchered.  I understand slang, but there are limits.  Examples -

selfie - Really, we can't just call it a self portrait?  People used timers to include themselves in photos for ages without some silly, rather self-promoting term.

bromance - Why?  Seriously, why??  Can two men not be close friends anymore?  Does a close friendship need some invented word to make it look, well, more than a little weird?  Two dudes hanging out as friends, and enjoying activities together, isn't any sort of "romance", and shouldn't be described that way.  Please, people, stop!  This term is promoting an agenda that shouldn't be promoted.

influencer - At least this one is honest, in admitting that the whole goal of these popular people on social media is to influence how you think, but I'm not playing.  Social media was claimed to be a way for people to stay in touch with geographically distant family and friends, and to be able to join groups with others who share similar interests.  Instead, it's something else, a way for people to push others into agreeing with them, to make being "popular" more important than being right.

any "cutsie" little combination of names for a couple - How lazy are people that they can't just use both names, and how insulting is it to treat two people as a single entity?  I am likewise annoyed by goofy nicknames for various celebrities.

three-word directions - Combinations of directive words, telling people to do this, that, and the other annoy me to no end.  It's like an extended version of the hidden commands from the awesome movie They Live.  Do people really need these things?

Professional Sports - I'm not saying sports are bad, per se, just that the way they're handled professionally gets on my nerves.  I can enjoy a good baseball game, watched in-person, but I don't care who is playing.  Give me a good game, and that's what counts.  Neighborhood team, church team, kids, adults, whatever.  Pros, too, assuming I don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get in.  What I dislike is the massively overpriced ticket and merchandise, the way that these games literally take over network television, and how, even if we don't watch, we're expected to pay for the sports channels with any cable or satellite television package.  I shouldn't have scheduled shows preempted for a ball game, nor have to subsidize something for which I have no interest.  Let those who want to watch pay for channels for that, and don't put these games on the major networks at all.

Rap and Hip Hop - Seriously, how many people actually like this, and how many are just claiming to like it because they think it makes them look cool/popular/into "diversity", whatever?  To me, the vast majority of this stuff is noise pollution.  No real melody, usually no harmony, bad or unintelligible lyrics, perverse and/or criminal themes, etc. - what's to like?  These days, half or more of the television shows and movies use nothing else for their soundtracks, as though there isn't any real music left.  There is, and this stuff isn't it.

Maple Syrup - I can't stand the taste of this stuff.  I like cane syrup, and berry-flavored ones, but I really dislike maple.  People do have different tastes, I know, but this flavor being so popular confounds me.  I suspect it was a lot of marketing that made this one so wanted.

This isn't a complete list, by any means, but it's a start.  Please share your own lists, and feel free to comment on mine.
